The Crypt Keeper is back!
Shudder streaming service has officially landed one of the most sought-after Intellectual Properties in the horror community. The streaming rights to Tales from the Crypt which ran from 1989-1996 on HBO. Backed by heavyweights in the industry Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon/The Goonies) and Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future/Who Framed Roger Rabbit) was a horror anthology series based on the old EC Comic series and pulled from series including The Haunt of Fear, The Vault of Horror, Crime SuspenStories, Shock SuspenStories and Two-Fisted Tales.
Season 1 is officially on Shudder with each season set to release every Friday throughout May and into June.
It’s worth taking the trip back to the Crypt and reliving the glory days of “it’s not TV it’s HBO” lifestyle. As horror fans will drift right back into the comfort of these stories with guest appearances. Season 1 alone has William Sadler (Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey), Joe Pantoliano (The Goonies), Lea Thompson (Back to the Future), and M. Emmet Walsh (Blade Runner). Each episode has its own unique sense of dark and twisted humor. The standout episode is definitely “And All Through the House” directed by Robert Zemeckis. Richard Donner takes on “Dig That Cat…He’s Real Gone” another standout in the six-episode first season. You can hear more of my take on season 1 in the link at the bottom.
It’s a pleasure to have Tales from the Crypt back in society.
