If you are unfamiliar with “Buffet Infinity” let me explain:
A local restaurant begins facing opposition from the new and mysterious Buffet Infinity restaurant. While offering incredible prices, questions begin to arise about the buffet when townspeople begin going missing and the restaurant shows influence both by expanding and showing up in unexpected places.
Through commercials and news segments that present as found footage, it becomes clear that Buffet Infinity may be more than just a restaurant.
If that sounds like a gimmick it’s because it is but it’s a gimmick that works to near perfection.
Buffet Infinity is a bold, daring experiment that might not be for everyone but if you trust the process and stay with it then the payoff is a one-of-a-kind experience.
Set in a small town, in a Canadian suburb Buffet Infinity is a new way to tell a horror story. Its greatest feat is telling this story about take over through channel surfing. The entire film feels like your TikTok feed these days. Never lingering too long on one thing but everything is important you see. You’ll feel like you smoked a joint and started channel surfing at 3a while realizing something more sinister is playing out under the scenes. The film also finds a way to be really funny and leans into its clear SCTV inspirations.
I can’t stress enough how this film finds the tight rope between the gimmick way it tells the story through commercials and news reports, along with the comedy and horror elements and never pushing audiences patience. There is a real art and playfulness to how Buffet Infinity transpires and gets so much out of the repetition. This film also could become one of the most polarizing films in horror because of how avant-garde it is. But if you grew up watching Adult Swim at 3a then you are bound to really enjoy this film.
I give the film 4 out of 5 stars.
