Gloucester County Commissioner of the Revenue issues High Mileage Vehicle Assessment Reminder

Gloucester County Commissioner of the Revenue, JoAnne Harris, issued a reminder today that Gloucester County citizens who have vehicles with excessive mileage may be eligible for a reduction in their vehicle assessment.

“Citizens who frequently commute and incur a high number of miles on their vehicles may be eligible,” Harris said. “With proper documentation, we can more accurately assess these vehicles.”

To qualify for this reduction, citizens must submit supporting documentation. Examples of such documentation include:

  • A recent Virginia State inspection receipt (prior to Jan. 1, 2023).
  • A recent oil change receipt by a verifiable third party that list the date, vehicle, and vehicle mileage on the receipt.

Harris requests that all inquiries and documentation be submitted as soon as possible to determine if the vehicle qualifies for the high mileage the adjustment, so that it can be made prior to tax bills being due July 17, 2023.

Citizens can find the “Request for Correction of Assessment of Tangible Personal Property Tax for Auto’s and Motorcycle’s” on the Commissioner of Revenue’s website www.gloucesterva.gov/commissioner-of-the-revenue. Requests can also be made via email: cor@gloucesterva.info.
