Norfolk, Va. –  The USS James E. Williams and the USS Mahan will return to Naval Station Norfolk on Saturday, January 10th.

The USS James E. Williams will arrive at 9:30 a.m. and the USS Mahan will arrive at 11:30 a.m.

The guided-missile destroyer USS Mahan left Norfolk in August on a five-month deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. It was the first deployment for the ship since the shooting death of Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Mark Mayo aboard the ship in March at Naval Station Norfolk.

The USS James E. Williams left Norfolk in May on an eight-month deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.

It was a rocky deployment for the USS James E. Williams. Three of the ship’s leaders were relieved in September after a female Sailor committed suicide aboard the ship in June.  A Navy investigation revealed her death was attributed in part to a toxic command climate on-board.
