O’Kane, assigned to the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations.

Norfolk native serves with U.S. Navy

Seaman Apprentice Charnyah Brown, a native of Norfolk, Virginia, serves the U.S. Navy assigned to Naval Station Mayport. Brown graduated from Indian River High School in 2017. “I learned to adapt to different environments because I moved a lot around the Hampton Roads area,” said Brown. “This helped in the Navy because you are always having to adapt to new people and new working environments.” Brown joined the Navy one year ago. Today, Brown serves as an undesignated sailor.

Quartermaster Seaman Amya Williams, from Virgina Beach, Virginia, operates radar equipment in the pilot house aboard the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), during a fueling-at-sea with Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) in the Philippine Sea, June 4. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
