Fort Eustis to host rededication, time capsule ceremony
JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. – In conjunction with its 100th anniversary celebration, Fort Eustis is scheduled to host a rededication ceremony, as well as pay tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, at 9 a.m., May 11. On March 19, 1918, the War Department authorized construction of Camp Abraham Eustis, in honor of Brevet Brigadier General Abraham Eustis. The ceremony will commemorate the installation’s 100 years of operations.
Held at Fort Eustis’ Seay Plaza, the ceremony will include a rededication of the plaza, a time capsule ceremony and a tribute to Vietnam War veterans.
Seay Plaza was named after U.S. Army Sgt. William W. Seay, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for actions while serving with the 62nd Transportation Company (Medium Truck), 7th Transportation Battalion, 48th Transportation Group during the Vietnam War.
Maj. Gen. “Bo” Dyess, Army Capabilities Integration Center deputy director, will be the guest speaker. Dyess is Sgt. Seay’s second cousin, and followed in Seay’s footsteps to serve in the Army.
