Military Hero

Kevin was nominated by his wife Lucy: My name is Lucy Gellerman.  My Military Hero is my husband, Kevin. Kevin has done several things in the military that so many in our armed forces has done. Things like multiple deployments, missing special events for work, pulling 48 hour duties with no sleep, and the list of things they are required to do goes on and on. For me, what makes him my hero is how he fights for his family. 4 years ago we found out I was pregnant.  We were over the moon with excitement.  6 weeks later, on my 28th birthday, we found out I had cancer. Our moon came crashing down. We spent the next 48 hours doing tests, talking to specialist, and praying. We all decided to wait on treatment and try to get baby to 32 weeks so she would have a fighting chance, then deal with my cancer. Fast forward to my 26th week. Drs put me on bedrest at the hospital, unfortunately the hospital where they were treating me was 3 hours away from my home.  We ended up spending 4 months living in Fisher House, like the Ronald McDonald house, while I was in the hospital and while our daughter spent several weeks in the NCIU. They delivered her via c-section, then removed the cancer. We finally we cleared to go home, but had to make weekly visits back to the hospital for checks with my Oncologist. They decided that I would get 6 months to heal after surgery, then under go radiation. A lot of this is about what I went through, but he is the one who went through so much. Dealing with my diagnosis while I was carrying his child, dealing with PTSD from multiple deployments, even being looked over for promotion twice because the amount of time he was away helping me. My husband was my rock. I would never had made it through without him, he stayed strong when everything was falling apart, including his military career. That's why Kevin is my Military Hero.
