Military Hero

Corporal Michael Stenson was nominated by his stepfather Joseph, who had the following to say about him: "I stroke these words in this little blue box not just as a nomination, but as a father filled with immeasurable pride. My son, U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Michael A. Stenson Jr., has been a source of strength and inspiration in our family, and it is with profound admiration that I submit his name for your “Military Hero” prize package. Although I am Mikey’s stepfather, I have had the privilege of raising him as my own. From the moment I became part of his life, he has been my son in every way that truly matters. Watching him grow into the man he is today has been one of the greatest honors of my life. At just 16 years old, before even graduating high school, Mikey took on responsibilities far beyond his years. While I battled cancer, he stepped up—not just as a son, but as a protector and provider for our family. He helped care for his younger siblings and made sure our home remained steady during a time of uncertainty and struggle. Most teenagers focus on school, friends, and sports, but Mikey’s heart led him to put his family first. That same selflessness defines him to this day. Now 24 years old, he serves his country as a United States Marine, all while being a dedicated husband and father to three beautiful children. He works three jobs to provide for his family, embodying the kind of resilience and work ethic that inspires everyone who knows him. And as if that weren’t enough, he recently completed the One City Marathon in Newport News, Virginia, with no formal training—simply because he refuses to back down from a challenge. As a father, you hope to raise a child who is strong, compassionate, and honorable. Mikey is all of those things and more. He is a man of integrity, perseverance, and love, and he has made our family, our country, and me proud beyond words. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share his story with you. Thank you for considering my nomination and for recognizing the dedication of those who serve. No matter what, Mikey will always be my hero—but I believe he is more than deserving of being yours as well……..no more than the next Man or Woman who serve our Great Country With deepest pride and admiration, Joe Maddox Sr. Bonus Dad" THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE, MICHAEL!
