From January 1, 2026 at 12:00am through December 31, 2026 at 11:59pm, listeners will be directed to 1069thefox.com to the “Military Hero” contest page to complete a registration and submit required information about an active, former, or retired United States military member to nominate him/her to be the “Military Hero.” Military members may also nominate themselves.
On the first day of the month from through 1/1/27, one entrant will be randomly chosen as the Military Hero and will receive a prize package and notified by telephone. If the office is closed due to a holiday or weekend on the first of the month, the winner will be randomly chosen on the next business day. Submissions must be received by 11:59 pm on the last day of the month to be eligible for the next random drawing. Submissions received after that time will be in the running for the following month. Entrants who are not chosen will remain in the pool of entrants for the duration of the promotion. In the event an entrant is not eligible, another entrant will be randomly chosen as the winner. In the event there are no new eligible entrants, no winner will be selected that week. This station is conducting this contest concurrently and simultaneously with one other station in Hampton Roads, VA affiliated with Hampton Roads Media Group. Listeners of WAFX will, therefore, be competing with listeners of one other radio station to win the same prize. Winners will need to follow all COVID guidelines and protocols put into place by the concert organizer. WAFX cannot be held responsible for any event cancellations or rescheduling.

WAFX contests are open to all eligible Hampton Roads and northeast North Carolina residents who live or work within 75 miles of the transmitter 18 or older. Entrants must be active, former, or retired military personnel with military ID and must be based locally. They can be currently deployed or overseas, but must have a home base of Hampton Roads. Any prize awarded to an ineligible listener will be deemed null and void, and an alternate eligible winner may be named. Prizes are not transferrable or redeemable for cash.
Images submitted must be owned by the person submitting the entry. No one else may have, or can claim, legal rights to the image. If there is a “minor” (a child or person under the age of 18) in this image, the entrant must certify that he or she is the parent or legal guardian of the minor (child or children) in the image. Any misrepresentation of ownership of the submitted image, or legal guardianship of the minor in the submitted image (if any), will be grounds for disqualification of the contest and potentially all future contests or promotions with Tidewater Communications. Entries containing inappropriate images will be disqualified. Tidewater Communications has final say of what content is appropriate for the website. No indecent or obscene material, no content or material that is illegal, no material containing nudity or is sexually explicit, or by law, obscene profane or pornographic is permitted. By entering this contest, you are verifying that you are the owner and producer of the submitted material and that no third-party ownership rights exist to the image. If the image contains people, by submitting such image you agree to have the rights necessary to consent or submit on behalf of those in the image.
Employees of WAFX, Hampton Roads Media Group, and its ultimate parent company, Saga Communications, Inc., their advertising agencies, affiliates, contest sponsors, employees and immediate families of each, and employees of all media of mass communication within a one hundred mile radius of the WAFX main studio are not eligible to win any contest. Immediate family includes the spouse, great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of the employee and his/her spouse. This also includes individuals for whom the employee is current legal guardian.
Listeners may nominate as many military members as they wish, but they may only nominate the same person one time during the duration of the promotion.
In the event the military member chosen is deceased, currently deployed, or overseas, the spouse, significant other, or immediate family member over the age of 18 may pick up the prize.
No purchase necessary. WAFX’s Sole responsibility will be to award the prize. WAFX will have no further responsibility in connection with the prize if the prize winner, for any reason, cannot or decides not to use any of the prizes.
