Jodie Foster has reassured fans she has no plans to quit Hollywood, after sparking retirement speculation with her acceptance speech at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday.
The actress moved the star-studded Hollywood crowd to tears with an impassioned speech about her personal life and career as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille award onstage at the Los Angeles prizegiving.
She said, “Privacy – maybe someday in the future, people will look back and remember how beautiful it once was. I have given everything out there, from the time I was three years old.”
However, Foster is adamant she is not finished with her career, telling reporters backstage at the ceremony, “No, I am not retiring. I could never stop acting. You’d have to drag me with wild horses. I’d like to be directing tomorrow… I’m actually more into it than I’ve been. My work is evolving.”
The “Silence of the Lambs” star also used the speech to discuss “coming out” and broached the topic of her sexuality but stopped short of describing herself as a lesbian.
She did not address the subject backstage, but added, “The speech kind of speaks for itself. I feel like I’m graduating from something. It’s a big moment. I wanted to say what’s most on my heart.”
