Welcome home from FM99 and The Fox to the sailors of the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69).
Thousands of Hampton Roads families are welcoming home more than 5,000 sailors aboard the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower this week. The Norfolk-based ship has been gone for 10 of the last 12 months.
It deployed from June through December last year, and after a two-month break to have its flight deck resurfaced, left again in February. Most of the 57 aircraft that are part of Carrier Air Wing 7 will return to Norfolk Naval Station and Oceana Naval Air Station on Tuesday.
The ship pulled into Norfolk on Wednesday, July 3rd. The air wing logged more than 5,200 missions, with about 1,300 flights designated as combat sorties over Afghanistan, according to a Navy news release. Planes provided combat support for coalition forces on the ground there.
