Rescue Remembrance Project
The Newport News Firefighter’s Association is hosting the Rescue Remembrance Project this summer and will be touring the entire Hampton Roads area with the project. The project is a traveling Sept. 11th memorial and museum, more information is below.
The Rescue Remembrance Project is a group of retired firefighters who purchased the damaged fire trucks from the Sept 11th attacks. They purchased them out of pocket and restored them. They now travel the country with them, displaying the rigs and other artifacts to help educate those to young to remember the attacks and to remind those of us who experienced them, never to forget. The project is funded entirely by donations.
Newport News will be hosting the FDNY Rescue 4 rig from the 9/11 attacks this August 27-Sept 8th. This rig was severely damaged in the attacks and all six firefighters who responded on the rig died when the buildings collapsed. We will be traveling around the Hampton Roads area between these dates in August/Sept, trying to display the rig as much as possible, in as many public venues as we can and to help collect donations.
We are hoping to get the area fire depts to host the rig for a day or two in a public event to help us display it across all Hampton Roads. The projects website is http://remembrance.co/ .
